Notes for Ephriam KNOWLTON Jr.
Ephraim ... is the father of at least four children born between 1770 and 1782 (Elizabeth, Stephen, Phoebe and Abijah). [We have most of these children, as given by Stocking in the Knowlton genealogy, as children of Robert Knowlton, son of Ephraim.] Various depositions for his daughter Elizabeth to obtain a pension on her husband Reuben Barrett's war service give her birthdate as at least as early as 1771 9 making her 13 at her marriage in 1784, following her father's death). Her brother, Stephen, gave one of these and reports that he was present at the wedding; he would have been eight years old. By the way, Reuben also served in Capt. Marcus Moseman's Co. with Ensign Eli Tyler.

New York Genealogical & Biographical Society: BEDFORD RECORDS BOOK on American Revolution: (copied by Elizabeth Knowlton, Atlanta GA):

Oral interview done in 1848 with Isaac Daniels:

"I am 86 years old and served for two years under Capt. Moseman (Marcus Moseman, 1 believe) in Colonel Thomas's regiment. 1 was in several skirmishes. One of the Kipps of DeLancey's Refugees came up to Bedford and drove off a great number of cattle. Capt. Mosemans company and other volunteers pursued. I think Moseman was along, but am not certain. He was reported to be rather timorous. Ephraim Knowlton was our lieutenant and a good officer. He was with us this time, and he most generally commanded the company. We pursued on the road and passed North Castle church and overtook the Refugees five or six miles below the church. When we fired upon Kipp's party, they abandoned the cattle, or most of them."

"Eprim Knowlton" issued pay in 1786, signed for by Eli Tyler. (Elizabeth Knowlton, Atlanta GA per visit to NYB&G Society, August 1995.) 140
